The NeutraWeed consortium is pleased to announce that the call for papers for the Special Issue in Q1 Journal Weed Research is now officially open and available online. Full details can be found at this page.

The NeutraWeed coordinators warmly invite researchers to submit their contributions to this Special Issue.

The submission deadline is Wednesday, 1 November 2028.

“We are confident that high-quality papers addressing this new and fascinating topic will be submitted” stated Marco Esposito, NeutraWeed Coordinator and Scientific Responsible.

The Special Issue will be guest edited by Prof. Camilla Moonen and Dr. Marco Esposito (Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies of Pisa), Dr. Guillaume Adeux (INRAE - French National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and Environment), and Dr. Franco Angelini (University of Pisa), all actively involved in the NeutraWeed project.

We invite the submission of original research articles and review papers that explore weed-weed and crop-weed interactions, contributing to the development and application of the Neutral Weed Communities (NWCs) concept. The goal is to advance the design of innovative cropping systems and weed management strategies that support Neutral Weed Communities.

Article types accepted

  • Original Research (strongly encouraged)

  • Reviews

  • Insights (personal perspectives, novel methods, emerging topics)

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Cropping system design and weed management strategies aimed at shaping Neutral Weed Communities

  • Ecological and biological interactions between Neutral Weed Communities and crops across different agroecosystems worldwide

  • Effects of neutral weed communities on crop nutritional quality

  • Impacts of Neutral Weed Communities on ecosystem services and biodiversity

  • Innovative and technological solutions for species-specific weed management

For any questions regarding manuscript submission or the review process, please contact Prof. Camilla Moonen and Dr. Marco Esposito.
