Between October and December 2025, María Muñoz Arbeláez and Anna Rizzolo, PhD candidates at the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies (Italy), completed their secondment at the School of Agriculture of the University of Buenos Aires (FAUBA) within the framework of the NeutraWeed Project.

Their work focused on evaluating the role of biostimulants in improving chickpea germination and supporting ecological weed management strategies under field conditions. Activities were carried out at FAUBA’s Department of Industrial Crops, in close collaboration with Dr Marianne Torcat and Cristian Malavert, alongside researchers and students from the host institution.

The secondment involved the development of application protocols, the establishment of field trials, and the collection of agronomic and floristic data on chickpea crops and associated weed communities.

In addition, a technical visit to Córdoba Province allowed them to engage with farmers, technicians, and researchers, gaining first-hand insight into Argentine chickpea production systems and regional agricultural contexts.

A comprehensive dataset from the field experiment has been compiled and is currently under analysis. The results will contribute to ongoing research within the NeutraWeed project and to future scientific publications.

International collaboration remains key to advancing sustainable agricultural systems. Stay tuned for upcoming results!
